A comprehensive numerical approach for modelling blind-bolted CFST connections

Conducting numerical investigation for the behaviour of a blind-bolted connection with concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) and an open section could emerge several convergence issues due to its complex mechanism interactions between components. This paper attempts identify address these provide reliable solution techniques that can be adopted achieve accurately predict CFST connections. Three different types blind-bolts, which are currently used in experimental research, have been considered this study. Primarily, addresses blind-bolt modelling aspects, application bolt preload, identification interaction surfaces, use mass-scaling option, system energy non-linear material modelling. For accurate representation concrete compressive crushing tensile cracking, existing available models damage criteria also discussed. Sensitivity analyses conducted such connections will complement reliability models. The generated good agreement counterparts. Thus, discussed comprehensive understanding reduced computational cost, help making rational design future tests.
